1.       Debilitate:

Meaning – to decapitate, to weaken.
            Sentence- The retirement of Glenn McGrath debilitated the Australian pace attack.

2.       Thraldom:
              Meaning- bondage.
Sentence- Negative thinking is like a thraldom, as it restricts one from achieving one’s true potential.

3.       Cyrenaicism:

Meaning – Greek school of philosophy.

Sentence- The author of the manuscripts unearthed from the excavation site is unknown but I guess they belong to cyrenaicist period of Greek history.

 
4.       Tenor:
Meaning- general meaning.

Sentence- Indian media should understand the tenor made in public and then raise hue and cry about it.


5.       Seething:

Meaning- raging.

Sentence- Ramesh was seething with anger at the sight of his arch rival Suresh..

 
6.       Diffidence:

Meaning- lack of confidence.

Sentence- He excelled at the written test but his diffidence during the interview led his rejection in his dream company.

 
7.       Staid:

Meaning-  to sedate, sober.

Sentence- a. The victim was staid and then robbed of his belongings.

                     b. Prateek is a staid guy. I am sure he will never even touch alcohol.

 
8.       Impertinent:

Meaning-  irrelevant, not worth in a specific context.

Sentence- Ravi’s presence is impertinent in today’s meeting.

 
9.       Tacit:

Meaning- implicit, which is understood without being said.

Sentence- The hatred between the two stepbrothers was tacitly understood by other family members..

 
10.   Construe:

Meaning- to analyze or examine carefully.

Sentence- CBI construed the evidences and then framed charges against the minister’s son.

 Meaning – to propagate.
 Sentence- The rampant proliferation of swine flu caused panic in the country.

4. Dirge:
 Meaning- a mournful poem(noun), to mourn(verb).
 Sentence- a. The composer composed a heartwarming dirge in the memory of the late saint.
                  b. The whole nation wants to dirge for the passing away of the great late saint.

5. Tenuous:
 Meaning- slender/ thin.
 Sentence- The acrobat walked on the extremely tenuous steel wire very easily.

6. Invasive:
 Meaning-tending to invade.
 Sentence- The Indian Army is always alert against the invasive terrorist forces.

7. Moot:
 Meaning-  to raise an issue or a question or a topic for discussion.
 Sentence- The host mooted the topic for the debate and the show began.

8. Benign:
 Meaning-  extremely kind.
 Sentence- Mother Teresa was, perhaps, one of the most benign humans who ever lived.

9. Bluster:
 Meaning- to talk very loudly.
 Sentence- The wife usually blusters and the husband rarely retorts – that’s the secret of a happy
                   married life.

10. Flex:
 Meaning- to bend/ stoop.
 Sentence- The athlete flexed his muscles day and night to prepare for the upcoming race.

 Meaning- gradually spread over.
 Sentence- The unknown virus has suffused over the entire town.

3. Whiff:
 Meaning - to sniff.
 Sentence- The police dog started whiffing the handkerchief lying near the dead body.

4. Siphoning:
 Meaning- transfer gradually over a period of time.
 Sentence- The siphoning of the talented pool of IT professionals to west is a matter of serious concern for India.

5. Innuendos:
 Meaning- half truths.
 Sentence- India – Pakistan relationship has been marred by innuendos for quite a long period of time.

6. Bourgeoisie:
 Meaning- the middle class or the class in majority.
 Sentence- The anti-corruption movement by Anna Hazare had incredible backing from the bourgeoisie in India,until it was marred by internal tiffs.

 Meaning- crowd or mob.
 Sentence- The police found it extremely difficult to check the rabble following the communal riots.

 Meaning- treat or speak disrespectfully.
 Sentence- The newly joined employee repeatedly dissed the team lead.

 Meaning- act of destruction.
 Sentence- The public-private property was subjected to vandalism during the riots.

 Sentence- We need to emancipate our bureaucracy from the menace of corruption.

 Sentence- The spy was adept in the art of deceit.

 Meaning- intoxication
 Sentence- The driver slammed the car against the tree in the state of inebriation.

6. Masquerade:
 Meaning- disguise.
 Sentence- I don’t like Ali, he acts nice all the time but it is all just a masquerade.

7. Chores:
 Meaning- daily routine tasks.
 Sentence- Along with his official chores he actively spares time out for social work.

 Meaning- unconquerable.
 Sentence- The Australian cricket team was once impregnable.

 Meaning- ruin.
 Sentence- His addiction to alcohol dilapidated his family life.

   Meaning- to steal.
   Sentence- My drinking habit pilfered the happiness of my family but I realized it too late!

2. extricate:
   Meaning- emancipate, liberate.
   Sentence- We need to extricate our society from the plague called communalism.

3. affluent:
   Meaning- opulent, wealthy.
   Sentence- The affluent section of our society rarely pays any attention towards the poor and the needy.

4. retrogressive:
   Meaning- going from better to worse.
   Sentence- The politics in the country is going retrogressive day by day.

5. augur:
   Meaning- to predict(verb), prophet(noun).
   Sentence- a. He augured the victory of his party in the upcoming elections.
      b. The augur who hosted that popular horoscope show was found dead in his flat.

6. profane:
   Meaning- unholy, worldly.
   Sentence- The convict used to confess all his profane activities in front of the priest.

7. macabre:
   Meaning- terrible, gruesome.
   Sentence- The police was horrified with the macabre series of murders taking place in the area.

8. prudence:
   Meaning- caution.
   Sentence- The pilot's prudence saved the passengers of the flight from certain death.

   Meaning- someone who treats you very lowly.
   Sentence- Never pay heed to your detractors, just continue the hard work with thorough dedication and success shall be yours.

   Meaning- one who never gives up.
   Sentence- Gandhi ji became a recusant when he was informed that the British denied complete independence to India.
